Create a mental sanctuary you can visit anytime!
Visualization is a powerful tool! By creating a detailed mental image of a place where you feel completely safe and calm, you give your brain somewhere peaceful to go when anxiety strikes. The more details you add using all five senses, the more real and calming it becomes. This safe place can be real or imaginary - whatever brings YOU the most peace!
Close your eyes and imagine yourself in this peaceful place...
While imagining your safe place, take 5 slow, deep breaths
When anxiety hits, close your eyes and transport yourself to your safe place. Spend 2-3 minutes there breathing slowly.
Visit your safe place as you fall asleep. It is like giving your brain a peaceful bedtime story!
The more you practice visualizing your safe place when calm, the easier it is to access when anxious.
Over time, add more sensory details. Maybe there is a special object there, or a comfortable spot to sit.
